Sinclair’s ‘Orwellian’ attack on the press

Sinclair Broadcasting Group is facing backlash for attacking competitor news outlets for producing false news. Local journalists at Sinclair-owned stations from all over the country are reading corporate-mandated scripts that have the potential to worsen many news outlet reputations.

Sinclair is also making its journalists air commentary that is more on the conservative side. The commentary could undermine the public's trust in the press, which is what the company's goal seems to be. 

Sinclair owns the most local television outlets in the U.S. and with the potential to acquire Tribune Media Company's stations as well, its reach could expand to 75% of households. The message the company is sending out could affect many consumers' attitudes toward the press, and news outlets might face the repercussions.
